Recommended Reading - Fat for Fuel by Dr. Joseph Mercola

Today, I want to share a book with you that I think should be on every healthy lifestyle reading list and that's Fat for Fuel: A Revolutionary Diet to Combat Cancer, Boost Brain Power, and Increase Your Energy by Dr. Joseph Mercola.

What this book will teach you to do is to find the cleanest and most efficient fuels for your body, how to repair from the daily damage we inflict on ourselves, and how to slow down that dreadful aging process.

For example, we all understand that the better gasoline you put in your car, the better it will run and function, so why not consider this same concept while eating? We are constantly fueling our bodies with fast food, sodas, artificial sweeteners, and multiple prescription drugs, yet we sit and wonder why our body isn't working correctly.

There are plenty of diets out there that interest those who want to lose a few pounds or get a little healthier but that's all they are - diets. What you need to consider is a lifestyle change, a plan to make healthier choices for your body, and your life, and something you can follow indefinitely.

This doesn't have to be a drastic change because that isn't realistic and you set yourself up for failure. Rather, start out by making a healthier choice each day. When that seems easy enough, then make some more healthy changes. Keep repeating this pattern until you've reached your goals and you are now fueling your body with the cleanest and most efficient fuels. As the weeks progress, we will discuss macro-nutrients - that's our fats, our proteins, and our carbohydrates. We'll also discuss our sugars and sweeteners and break down for you what is good, what's not so good, and what you should avoid at all costs.

“Dr. Joseph Mercola has been a shining beacon of health wisdom and freedom for decades. His latest book, Fat for Fuel, is a masterpiece of cutting-edge research and practical application. This information, if applied, holds the key to sustainable weight loss and enhanced energy. More than that, this lifestyle plan can help reverse chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.”
— Christiane Northrup, M.D.New York Times best-selling author of Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom and Goddesses Never Age
“I truly believe that the concept of Mitochondrial Metabolic Therapy will have significant impact on health. As I mentioned in my book, cancer is not likely to occur in people with healthy mitochondria. Dr. Mercola has expanded this concept to a broad range of chronic diseases that involve mitochondrial dysfunction. He provides a clear rationale as well as guidelines for implementation of MMT. This book should be read by anyone interested in maintaining their health without toxic pharmaceuticals.”
— Thomas Seyfried, Ph.D., author of Cancer as a Metabolic Disease and professor of biology at Boston College
“A book like Fat for Fuel has been a long time coming. Backed by a wealth of research, Dr. Mercola makes the definitive case that fat, not sugar, is the power source on which our bodies are meant to run, and he outlines what changes we can make in our daily lives to use fat as fuel. KU Integrative Medicine has been waiting for this book!”
— Jeanne A. Drisko, M.D., C.N.S, F.A.C.N., Director, KU Integrative Medicine, and Riordan endowed professor of orthomolecular medicine, University of Kansas Medical Center

Chiropractic And Injury Prevention

As research performed in the last few decades has shown, Chiropractic is known to change & improve various aspects of nervous system function, including motor control, brain reaction times, and brain cognitive processing (the speed with which our brain processes information). So, it makes sense that if any of these areas are lacking then you should be at greater risk for injury, especially when we are talking low back injuries (due to how important brain control is over the vitally important spinal muscles). We know that if you can’t activate your trunk and core muscles before rapidly moving an arm, this can potentially result in a strain or sprain of the low back. This is known as the feed forward mechanism - if our spine doesn't first stabilize properly before we move our limbs then we greatly increase our risk of injury at the spinal level. These injuries usually start as microscopic injuries that we don't even notice but like everything else they continue to b...

Is it safe to crack your own neck?

If you can "crack" your own neck and back, then do you need to bother seeing a Chiropractor? And, is it safe to do this to yourself? The reality is when a Chiropractor locates a part of your spine that is restricted there is a lot more specifics to it than just a "stuck" joint. The joint has lost its normal flexibility in certain directions, and there will also be a disturbance created to the nerves that pop out from the spine at that location. When a Chiropractor adjusts your spine, we are applying just the right amount of force in the specific direction necessary to get that joint mobile again. This will also essentially create a reboot of the nervous system, just like when you reboot your computer with a forced close because it keeps freezing. The reason we have to be so specific is that the joints above and below the "stuck" joint begin to move more to compensate for the lack of movement (our body is extremely clever like that), and we only wan...

Chiropractic And Risks - Can An Adjustment Actually Cause A Stroke?

There is constantly false information being spread about Chiropractic. But the reality is we have a safety record that is the envy of all other health and medical professions. Perhaps the most dangerous false myth is that Chiropractic care can, in rare circumstances cause a particular type of stroke involving the arteries in the neck. However the research completely contradicts this. We spend this short episode explaining the truth! Check out this episode!
