The Webster Technique - Something Every Pregnant Mother Needs To Try

The Webster Technique has been mistakenly labeled the “baby turning technique” because there seems to be a high correlation (clinically and in some small preliminary studies) of breech babies turning after this technique is used. The Webster Technique is a gentle approach aimed at helping the pelvis & nervous system function properly. And when the body is functioning properly, amazing things can happen! In this episode we explain the technique, why it's so valuable but also the myths surrounding it. Check out this episode!

1 Simple Thing That May Help With Urinary Incontinence (And Childbirth)

America has the highest rates of interventions during childbirth compared to all other western world countries. Coincidence or not, America also has by far the highest number of mother’s dying during childbirth compared to other industrialized nations. To cut down on needing any interventions during labor and delivery, a women’s body needs to function exactly how it’s designed to. And some small preliminary studies are showing that Chiropractic adjustments might be improving the brain’s ability to relax and contract the pelvic floor, which is the most important group of muscles during delivery. As a bonus, having better control of these muscles will probably lead to less chance of suffering from urinary incontinence! Check out this episode!

Why Pregnant Moms Need To Know About The Webster Technique

The goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to restore normal neurological and biomechanical function that's been lost due to spinal irritations (or what we call subluxations). Specific to the Webster Technique, the goal is to reduce the effects of dysfunction within the pelvic and sacral joints due to subluxations. In doing so, normal neurological and biomechanical function in the pelvis is hopefully restored. At Sarpy Chiropractic we love the Webster Technique! It's a very gentle technique, and we use it with all of our pregnant patients. When the pelvis is undergoing some kind of biomechanical and/or neurological stress, it can potentially cause tightness within the uterus and abdominal walls which may obstruct normal movement of the fetus. If this is the case, then obviously this could lead to a fetus getting stuck in a breech position. So it's extra important during pregnancy that the pelvis and nerve supply to it are all functioning at their best! If

Could Chiropractic Help With Urinary Incontinence?

If you're a female and you want to have a child, or if you've ever experienced urinary incontinence, especially after giving birth, then your pelvic floor muscles may just be the most important muscles in your body that you need to know about! Why? Because these muscles are known to have active roles in both pregnancy and childbirth, as well as spinal stabilization. When they aren't working properly, health issues such as urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapses can occur. There's a reason these issues are more common after childbirth! But this isn't all they're responsible for. If they function correctly during labor then they give you the greatest chance at a natural, intervention free birth because they need to be able to relax and contract on cue during labor to help the baby move through the birth canal. As res earch has been showing for a couple of decades now that chiropractic care improves motor control, it’s safe to ask the question “wi

Osteoporosis - Disease Process Or Normal Aging?

There is now a school of thought among some very smart researchers that Osteoporosis and Osteopenia may be significantly overdiagnosed, and may not even be a correct diagnosis at all! Loss of bone density doesn’t equate to an equal loss of bone strength, nor does good bone density mean you have strong bones. In this short episode we cover all the important things you need to know about how Osteoporosis is diagnosed and what you need to do about it if you do have been diagnosed with low bone density. Reducing The Risk Of Falling In The Elderly Population

Here's the stats on falling for the elderly population: One in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults. It's obviously a big deal, but the research is finding some amazing results with Chiropractic and improvement in reaction times! Listen in to find out more. Check out this episode!

Osteoporosis - A Serious Disease Process Or Just Normal Aging?

It makes sense that as we age, certain "degenerative" changes will happen, such as decreasing eye sight or hearing, arthritis development, skin changes and so on. And it would appear that for a vast majority of women being diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia, they may actually just be experiencing normal age changes. These diagnosis were developed in the 1990's as we made better scanning technology, but much like MRI's now, we may be finding and diagnosing things that we don't truly understand. Scientists are finding out now that bone mineral density does not equate to bone strength. So being told you have low bone density tells you absolutely zero about the strength of your bones. However this deserves an entire separate conversation, so or now let's address the a small portion of women who do have to take this diagnosis seriously as they may suffer from the symptoms of severe bone mineral loss which can end up resulting in fractures. Which takes

Getting Old In Years Doesn't Have To Mean Getting Old In Health!

Just because something is common, it doesn't make it normal! Would you be shocked to know that we are designed to live to a healthy 90-120 years of age? And continue functioning at a level where we can live independently and perform all normal activities of daily living? There's been a huge decline in health as we age over the last 2 generations, but that doesn't mean you have to live that way! Healthy aging should be a goal for all of us, regardless of our genetics! We hope you enjoy this short episode! Check out this episode!

Science Shows That Chiropractic Care Reduces Falls In The Elderly

It's estimated that 1 in 3 older people will fall on a regular basis . It's so common that it's a leading cause of hospitable admissions and death among elderly. So this is obviously a major problem!  Many researchers believe Chiropractic adjustments can actually help you maintain balance and prevent you from falling over.   1  particular  study in New Zealand investigated whether Chiropractic care could improve brain function and thus prevent falls. T he researchers found  60 older adults to participate in this Randomized Control Trial. They randomly assigned 50% of participants into a group that would receive Chiropractic care, and the other 50% was in the control group so they didn't receive any Chiropractic treatment throughout the trial.  One of the outcome measures they looked at was the choice stepping reaction time (this means that they had to step a foot by choice because of a stimulus). Participants stood on a platform that had 4 panels that could li

Is "Healthy Aging" Actually Possible For Most People To Achieve?

There is some amazing research being performed showing us that Chiropractic care for adults can be a great boost to your health, function, and quality of life as you age. Age brings wisdom, but also potential health problems such as memory loss, falls, arthritis, depression and anxiety, hearing and vision issues, and a host of other problems. However getting old doesn’t have to lead to an inevitable decline in health. In fact, just because something has become extremely common definitely does NOT mean that it is normal! A concept known as healthy aging does actually exist, regardless of what your genetics and hereditary history show. Your choices and actions can postpone or even reduce some of the undesirable effects of aging. T he goal of healthy aging is to maintain physical and mental health; avoid diseases & disorders, and remain active and independent. Of course it requires effort but the results are well worth it. Chiropractic care is an essential cor
