Self Care - Does It Really Matter?

If there's ever been a time that highlighted the importance of self-care, it's now! There's so much fear and stress flowing through our communities right now, not to mention a highly spreadable virus!

For people who have been proactive about their health and taken care of their mind, body, and spirit - well the virus poses virtually no threat, and they'll have the mental strength to get through everything else associated with it.

But for those where health became an afterthought, the virus does pose a very rel threat, as does all of the stress and fear surrounding us.

Even if your health hasn't been a priority, just remember the famous quote "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is today." So if you're alive, it's never too late to start taking better care of your mind, body, and spirit.

So what can you do to start prioritizing your health? Let's just start with some basics and fundamentals (by no means are these the only things to do, we just want to get you started):

  • Find a way to exercise daily - even if you can only do a 20 minute walk. And don't forget, a simple 15 minute session of high intensity exercise can be enough!
  • Prioritize good sleep habits to make sure you're getting a solid 8 hours every night.
  • Start cleaning up the diet, 1 step at a time. Add one good dietary habit and remove one bad habit every 90 days. In 3 years that'll be 12 good habits added and 12 bad habits removed resulting in a clean, nourishing diet that fuels you instead of poisons you.
  • Find stress relieving tactics that work for you - pray, meditate, write in a gratitude journal, read inspirational books or affirmations... Just do whatever it takes to get control of your mind otherwise the stress and fear will control it.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink half your body weight (in pounds) in liquid ounces of clean filtered water. Add some himalayan salts for electrolytes.
  • Take Vitamin D and vitamin C daily - now and every winter to support your immune system as well as you can. Get as much sunlight and fresh air as possible too.
  • Get rid of as many harmful chemicals from your home and life as possible. Start switching to safer options such as essential oils.
  • Stay connected with people you love (even if it can only be through cyberspace right now). Connection with other humans is one of the most underrated ways to stay healthy.
  • Get adjusted by your chiropractor more often. Chiropractic improves the way your brain communicates with the rest of your body. And seeing as how the brain controls every cell and system in your body, any interference in this communication can cause major issues.
  • Take some time for yourself. This feels so selfish initially for all parents, but you must set aside some time every week to do the things you love so you can be revitalized and functioning at your best!
So what are you waiting for? Start prioritizing your own health above everything else, and you'll find that you're able to handle any stress that life throws at you! You'll also be giving your body the ability to hopefully ward off any and all bugs and illnesses that come your way!

Chiropractic And Risks - Can An Adjustment Actually Cause A Stroke?

There is constantly false information being spread about Chiropractic. But the reality is we have a safety record that is the envy of all other health and medical professions. Perhaps the most dangerous false myth is that Chiropractic care can, in rare circumstances cause a particular type of stroke involving the arteries in the neck. However the research completely contradicts this. We spend this short episode explaining the truth! Check out this episode!

Chiropractic And Injury Prevention

As research performed in the last few decades has shown, Chiropractic is known to change & improve various aspects of nervous system function, including motor control, brain reaction times, and brain cognitive processing (the speed with which our brain processes information). So, it makes sense that if any of these areas are lacking then you should be at greater risk for injury, especially when we are talking low back injuries (due to how important brain control is over the vitally important spinal muscles). We know that if you can’t activate your trunk and core muscles before rapidly moving an arm, this can potentially result in a strain or sprain of the low back. This is known as the feed forward mechanism - if our spine doesn't first stabilize properly before we move our limbs then we greatly increase our risk of injury at the spinal level. These injuries usually start as microscopic injuries that we don't even notice but like everything else they continue to b...
