One of the main reasons that we as a society have struggled to treat depression is that there doesn’t seem to be only 1 cause.

Prior research has linked depression to stressful or traumatic life events, while others have observed depression manifesting after chronic substance abuse. Genetic factors might also be at play, as people with a family history of depression are 3x more likely to have it too.

This is known as the feed forward mechanism - if our spine doesn't first stabilize properly before we move our limbs then we greatly increase our risk of injury at the spinal level.
