When in doubt, ride it out! The benefits of spinning.

This week we welcome a guest poster! Sarah, the owner of Elevate Cycling & Fitness Studio shares why spin classes are so popular and the great benefits you can experience by jumping on a stationary bike and pushing yourself through an intense workout!

Dim lights, music loud, letting the beat of the music guide your feet as you climb, sprint, press, and tap it back. Gone are the days of just sprinting and climbing, we incorporate a full body workout.  We want you to not only torch calories, but also dance on the bike!

I am a true believer in taking time for yourself. I believe that when we take these moments for ourselves we can not only become a better person, but it allows us to be a better friend, partner, spouse, mother, etc.  And spin can provide a place for you to come and get motivated, and get those endorphins flowing because when we feel good, we do good!

Here are my top 6 reasons why you should love spin class:

  1. You will get lost in the music

There is nothing like keeping the same pace as the beat of the music and looking around the room and seeing everyone else do the same.  Time will fly as you chase the beat, climb your hills, and tap it back!

      2. You will challenge yourself

Spin classes are for everyone! Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or just beginning, you have the power to control your resistance dial and make the class as challenging as you want it to be.  Most studios focus on interval training from sprints to climbing heavy hills which will get your heart rate up and burn the most calories in the least amount of time.

      3. Improve your cardiovascular health

Spin classes are a great way to improve your endurance and cardiovascular training.  Heart health and lung capacity are not only great reasons to spin, but as you work harder in class you will learn to control your breathing during your sprints in your hills to get the most out of your workout.

4.You’ll get a full body workout

Using weights and resistance bands while spinning is becoming more popular, and this allows riders to get a full body burn during class.  You’ll remain on the bike while pedaling at a slower speed while doing a variety of upper body work from biceps, triceps, shoulders, and chest.

      5. You’ll define your legs and increase your core strength

It is a common myth that you will “bulk up” in your legs when you spin. However, this is not the case.  Most of the time during class is spent standing up on the pedals which causes not only a large number of calories to be burned, but you will work your thighs, glutes, hamstrings, and your abdominal areas. Most studios use interval training combined with upper body work, which allows you to tone muscles that you didn’t even know you had.

      6. Spin Classes Torch Calories

You can burn an average of 500 calories in a 45 minute spin class, so if you are really looking to torch calories and challenge yourself then spin class is the way to go!

Chiropractic And Risks - Can An Adjustment Actually Cause A Stroke?

There is constantly false information being spread about Chiropractic. But the reality is we have a safety record that is the envy of all other health and medical professions. Perhaps the most dangerous false myth is that Chiropractic care can, in rare circumstances cause a particular type of stroke involving the arteries in the neck. However the research completely contradicts this. We spend this short episode explaining the truth! Check out this episode!

Chiropractic And Injury Prevention

As research performed in the last few decades has shown, Chiropractic is known to change & improve various aspects of nervous system function, including motor control, brain reaction times, and brain cognitive processing (the speed with which our brain processes information). So, it makes sense that if any of these areas are lacking then you should be at greater risk for injury, especially when we are talking low back injuries (due to how important brain control is over the vitally important spinal muscles). We know that if you can’t activate your trunk and core muscles before rapidly moving an arm, this can potentially result in a strain or sprain of the low back. This is known as the feed forward mechanism - if our spine doesn't first stabilize properly before we move our limbs then we greatly increase our risk of injury at the spinal level. These injuries usually start as microscopic injuries that we don't even notice but like everything else they continue to b
