The frigid cold, slushy snow, and stressful holiday seasons
are here. This is the time of year when it seems inevitable for some sort of
cold or flu to get a hold of you. Have you ever wondered why you are at home
sick at least every other week, whereas your cousin, Brenda, brags about not
ever having to miss a day of work due to being sick in 25 years?
The good news is when it actually comes down to the strength
of the host; you can do something about taking charge of your health. It is
incredible how our bodies are able to fight off infections and viruses. We just
have to make sure we are taking the best care of ourselves to optimize our
immune system’s function! The stronger it is, the healthier you are!
How do you
improve your immune system’s strength?
Decrease
sugar
Eat or juice more raw green
vegetables.
Sunshine – If you
cannot get enough sun exposure because you live somewhere with a cold climate
like Omaha, Nebraska, take a good quality vitamin D3 supplement.
Water – A good
aim is to drink half of your body weight in fluid ounces.
Sleep – 7-8 hours
of a good night’s rest is ideal.
Exercise – Minimum
of 30 minutes a day
Minimize
stress- Do things that help you manage stress. It will always be
there but you need to get better at adapting to whatever comes your way. The
more you control your moods and emotions with an optimist outlook, the more
likely your physical body can fight off any unwanted hosts.
Get
adjusted by a chiropractor – Hundreds of research studies show that when your
spine gets adjusted, your immune system spikes up!
