ADHD - Part 3. If not medications, then what?

In today's podcast, we continue on with our discussion on ADHD. Parts 1 and 2 discussed how we got into this mess in the first place, and what the drugs actually do to the brain. In Part 3, we discuss what should be done to help these kids heal and improve their brain function, and therefore their behavior and ability to listen and concentrate. Is A Standing Desk Worth The Effort?

Should you have a standing desk? At our chiropractic office, we see so many people with neck and back pain that is caused from them sitting at a desk for numerous hours at work. Many researchers are showing if you sit for 8 hours a day for most of your career, you are actually going to cut off the amount of years from your life just as you would if you smoked a pack a day for 20 years. Isn’t that alarming? Your body starts to shut down and age much faster when you sit too much and have little movement throughout the day. Movement is the key to life. The musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles, etc.) works on a "use it or lose it" basis. If you don’t walk around or stretch every 20-30 minutes, your muscles tense up, your joints stiffen, and you lose good posture which affects your spine. Our minds are ready for change. Our bodies are ready for change. As quickly as by January 7 th , all motivation can be lost. The daily occurrence of life becomes a distraction. Laziness begins to settle in. We might even forget why our resolutions were so important to us in the first place, so they are sloughed off. How do you stay on track? Write yourself a letter. Don’t let yourself forget why you wanted to start in the first place. Describe how you feel now and what makes you want to accomplish this trait or behavior.
