Is it safe to crack your own neck?

If you can "crack" your own neck and back, then do you need to bother seeing a Chiropractor? And, is it safe to do this to yourself?

The reality is when a Chiropractor locates a part of your spine that is restricted there is a lot more specifics to it than just a "stuck" joint. The joint has lost its normal flexibility in certain directions, and there will also be a disturbance created to the nerves that pop out from the spine at that location.

When a Chiropractor adjusts your spine, we are applying just the right amount of force in the specific direction necessary to get that joint mobile again. This will also essentially create a reboot of the nervous system, just like when you reboot your computer with a forced close because it keeps freezing.

The reason we have to be so specific is that the joints above and below the "stuck" joint begin to move more to compensate for the lack of movement (our body is extremely clever like that), and we only want to move the stuck joint as we don't want to add excess movement to an area that doesn't require it.

When you "self adjust" or crack your own neck you will actually move the joints that are already too mobile, thus creating even more instability. Obviously this is not ideal, as we only want to release tension from the joint that needs it. Too much movement will eventually lead to arthritis and a significant amount of wear and tear in your spine.

This is the exact reason why every Chiropractor gets adjusted by another Chiropractor - if anyone could effectively and safely self adjust then that would be us!

If you constantly feel the need to pop your own neck or back then please get assessed by a Chiropractor as this is a strong indicator that there is something faulty with the mechanics of your spine. Chiropractic And Injury Prevention

As research performed in the last few decades has shown, Chiropractic is known to change & improve various aspects of nervous system function, including motor control, brain reaction times, and brain cognitive processing (the speed with which our brain processes information). So, it makes sense that if any of these areas are lacking then you should be at greater risk for injury, especially when we are talking low back injuries (due to how important brain control is over the vitally important spinal muscles). We know that if you can’t activate your trunk and core muscles before rapidly moving an arm, this can potentially result in a strain or sprain of the low back. This is known as the feed forward mechanism - if our spine doesn't first stabilize properly before we move our limbs then we greatly increase our risk of injury at the spinal level. These injuries usually start as microscopic injuries that we don't even notice but like everything else they continue to b

Chiropractic And Risks - Can An Adjustment Actually Cause A Stroke?

There is constantly false information being spread about Chiropractic. But the reality is we have a safety record that is the envy of all other health and medical professions. Perhaps the most dangerous false myth is that Chiropractic care can, in rare circumstances cause a particular type of stroke involving the arteries in the neck. However the research completely contradicts this. We spend this short episode explaining the truth! Check out this episode!

The Biggest Myth Around Metabolic Syndrome (Syndrome X)

There’s no official cause behind Metabolic Syndrome, although it’s treated in a very similar way to Type 2 diabetes - drugs! But, what if we are looking at these conditions the completely wrong way? In my opinion, both metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes start out as a protective mechanism, where the body is trying to protect itself against the massive blood sugar spikes and inflammation created by the poor diets so many of us consume these days. The combination of processed sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and nasty vegetable oils (and other seed oils) are ruining the body, so it tries to protect itself. But this only works in the short term before the insulin resistance starts to kick in. I’ve seen so many people reverse these conditions through massive lifestyle changes that in my opinion, medications should ONLY be used short term (if at all) while teaching the person how to start reversing everything. In this episode I cover the lifestyle changes you’ll need to implement
